Differences between iphone and ipod touch

You walk into the apple store and you have two products in hand. One is the iPod Touch, a sleek and stylish iPod with touch screen and internet capabilities.  The other is the iPhone, the first of its kind in technology with the ability of a Smart phone and an iPod combined into a touch screen phone. Both are very appealing and you just can’t decide which you want more, you are realizing you should have done your research.

This article will show you the major differences between iphone and ipod touch.

Wi-Fi: Currently both the iPod Touch and the iPhone are Wi-Fi capable. At an additional monthly charge through AT&T you can purchase a plan for the iPhone that allows you internet access through their 3G network. This would mean that as long as you are in an area the AT&T gets service you will be able to connect to the internet.

Safari Web Browsing: Both have enabled web browsing on the product when purchased as long as you area in a Wi-Fi capable are or have purchased the 3G service.

E-mail: Both have e-Mail capabilities on the product when purchased as long as you are in a Wi-Fi capable area or have purchased the 3G service. On both you may open and check old mail while internet access is unavailable. On both, the e-mail has most of the same qualities as if you were looking on to a computer. You are able to send, receive, forward, and download attachments in one easy place.

Maps: The iPhone has a map application with built in GPS. If you are lost and need directions your iPhone will find where you are and can give you turn by turn directions on how to get to your destination using the 3G network. The iPod Touch also has the map application and will do this as well however you must be connected to Wi-Fi to access the GPS.

Video output: With the right connector you are able to connect your iPod touch up to an HDTV television and be able to see you iPod screen. Currently the iPhone does not have this capability however there are rumors that this will be one of the changes in newer models.

Photos: Uploading photos to both the iPod Touch and the iPhone are as easy as plugging in to your computer. Just as both will upload your music it will also upload your photos. You then have the ability to view them in slide show format or use them as pictures for backgrounds or contacts.

Camera: Only the iPhone has a built in camera. It takes snapshots, saves it into your photos and then automatically syncs photos with your PC or Mac the next time you plug into your computer.

Multitouch screen: One of the big draws to both the iPod Touch and the iPhone are their touch screens. This is a relatively new concept in both phones and music players and this is the largest reason people are purchasing these products.

Calendar: Both the iPod Touch and the iPhone have the ability to add events to your calendar, set a custom alert, write notes, and manage multiple color-coded calendars. You can also easily sync your calendar to your iCal for Macs or Outlook for PCs.

iTunes Wi-Fi Store: One of the best qualities to both the iPod Touch and the iPhone is the ability to purchase music on iTunes Wi-Fi store and get it directly downloaded. This takes out the step of needed to upload everything you purchase onto your computer. Then the next time you plug into your computer it will upload it into your iTunes there.

USB Port: Both of these products are connected and uploaded to your computer through a USB port

Memory: The iPod Touch is currently offered in 3 sizes, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB. The iPhone is offered in only the 8GB and 16GB. An 8GB holds 1,750 songs or 10 hours of video, a 16GB holds 3,500 songs or 20 hours of video, and the 36GB holds 7,000 songs or 40 hours of video.
